I recently attended a forum for parents of asthma and allergy sufferers. It was dynamic, positive and very informative. 

During these discussions it was interesting to hear how many people experienced insufficient support from their GP.

I can't be allergic to my pet. Can I?

People can be allergic to their pets - for cat lovers it is a reaction to the cats sweat glands and in dogs reactions are usually from saliva. This can result in hives, swelling, hay fever symptoms, asthma, etc. Additionally, the sweat or saliva then sticks to the fur and skin flakes,which often becomes airborne and can remain in a home for months.

Anaphylaxis Campaign is a UK charity that supports people at risk of Anaphylaxis (extreme allergic reactions). They recently released a new video #takethekit which targets teenagers and their attitudes towards EpiPens (epinephrine auto-injector).

For teenagers having to carry an EpiPen makes them un-cool. It makes them stand-out. It makes them different.

If you are heading to the snow with an EpiPen it is vital you know the best ways to keep yourself and your medication safe. Whether you are just visiting locations with cold weather or you are skiing or snowboarding it is important to keep your EpiPen and Action Plan with you at all times and at the correct temperatures.
